1st leg result (away), Killiney 3 – Newlands 2

Killiney’s Bloom Cup team have secured a 3-2 lead at the half-way stage of the Bloom Cup final.

Killiney travelled to Newlands for the first leg of the final on Sunday 15th September faced with a battle away from home against the current holders of the Cup. The Killiney team, one & all played unbelievable golf from the start, quickly silencing the Newlands roar. The Killiney support was outstanding, the 11th player that gave huge encouragement to each & every member of the team, we cannot thank all those that attended enough.

Special thanks to John Green for organising a panel of spotters & to our on-course correspondent Kieran who kept all updated on the state of play throughout the day. Above all we wish to thank the Killiney team who through a combination of practice rounds at Newlands & practice matches in Killiney have without exception put in a huge amount of preparation for the final. We have a really strong team & now look forward to the 2nd leg which will be played to a conclusion in Killiney next Sunday 22nd September, the first match will tee off at 12 Noon.

We appeal to all Killiney members to come and support the team on Sunday, we last won the Bloom Cup 42 years ago in 1977, so with our advantage at the half-way stage we firmly believe that 2019 is the year to bring the Cup back to Killiney. We look forward to seeing you all in Killiney next Sunday.
