Date posted: 26th June 2020

Dear Members,

The news we have all been waiting for has finally arrived and we are delighted to announce that Killiney Golf Club will re-open its doors on Monday, 29th June.  We would also like to communicate some important news in relation to your Captains' and President’s term of office, so please read on.

Extension to Captaincies
At the June meeting of the Council a number of decisions were taken unanimously. These were, firstly, that both vice captains were requested to propose to their respective committees that Diane and Brendan would be nominated by them as Captains for the 2021 season and that the existing vice captains would be nominated as vice captains for the 2021 season at their respective AGM's in November/December of this year. These decisions were taken in light of the uniquely unusual golf season to date in 2020 brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, as a consequence of which the captains have missed out on representing the club at other clubs, on supporting Killiney teams in inter club matches and making prize presentations to mention but a few. The Council also recognised the hard work both Captains have put in to date in their efforts to salvage the maximum from the curtailed season for the members.

The second decision which the Council also made unanimously was that the Chairman would suggest to the President’s Nominations Committee that, again in light of the curtailed season to date, the President has had no opportunity at all to represent the club at various functions and occasions and that Valerie should be invited to remain as President for 2021. The Nominations Committee subsequently also unanimously agreed to that suggestion and accordingly the Council will propose Valerie as President at the club AGM in February/March 2021.

The Council wishes Valerie, Diane and Brendan every success in their Offices with the fervent hope that this pandemic issue will be resolved very soon.

Opening Hours, Reservations, Restaurant and Bar
We are also pleased to tell you that the clubhouse restaurant will re-open for pre-booked snacks, sandwiches and scones, teas/coffees from 10am on Monday next. Then from Thursday 2nd, the restaurant will be open with an extended bar menu and for two sittings for Sunday lunch each week (all pre-booked).  Opening hours are subject to change depending on members’ demand but initially the clubhouse will remain open until 8.30pm with food available throughout the day.  In line with Government Guidelines alcohol can only be served to you once you have purchased a plate of food costing €9 or more.  We would ask all members to be cognisant of our staff and respect this rule in relation to the limitations they must adhere to in relation to the serving of alcohol.  The members’ lounge will remain closed until further notice.

The restaurant will be configured to conform to the Government guidelines with appropriate social spacing, tables will be numbered and will accommodate 4 people per table inside and 2 people per table outside, all restaurant customers must be served at their table and the tables must be booked in advance, including for snacks or tea/coffee. It will not be permissible to walk into the restaurant without having pre-booked.

If you would like to reserve a table for next week over the weekend before we open, please call John Byrne between 2pm and 4pm Saturday or Sunday on 087 6400017. From Monday onwards just contact the bar staff anytime during the extended opening hours on 2851983 Ext. 1.   44 people can be accommodated at tables inside at the one time and bookings will be available in two-hour slots.  A further 12 people can be accommodated outside at tables of 2 and these must also be booked in advance.  Please stipulate if you require an inside or outside table when booking.  Please note that if you book an outside table and the weather is unfavourable, you can only move to an inside table if there is availability and vice versa.  You must vacate your table after one hour and forty-five minutes.   Members may invite guests into the clubhouse, but no visitors are allowed until further notice.  Juniors are also allowed to pre-book tables.

We would like to express our gratitude to Mark, Alan and John for their willingness to extend the hours of service and the menus and for their cooperation in bringing back a restaurant and bar service to our members. We would like, for their part, that our members support our restaurant and sample some of the new dishes they have planned for us and look forward to making our re-opening a happy and successful occasion.  Menus for the week will be published in advance.

All arrangements in relation to the above are in place until 31st July and will be subject to review thereafter.

Locker Rooms
The ladies and gent’s locker room and showers will remain closed for now and will be re-open by Monday 6th July.

Health & Safety
Of paramount importance is the safety of our staff and our member and our Secretary Manager Niall Keyes, along with the staff who have been working to ensure the strict Government protocols are in place and adhered to.  The following Health & Safety precautions are been taken which include;

Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Niall Keyes and all the staff for all their hard work to prepare for our imminent return and we look forward to seeing you all again in the clubhouse shortly.
