Killiney vs Corrstown in Rathfarnham
Semi Finalists - LOVE IT
The team arrived fit, healthy, relaxed and all were well prepared for a blistering hot day in Rathfarnham. We were not disappointed - umbrellas were up to shelter from the sun - did you ever think you would see days like this in Eire?
The team got off to a galloping start watched by the amazing Deers - Diane with Miriam on the bag lead the way followed by Cathryn (who flew back form Spain to play 2 matches over the weekend for Killiney) with bag carrier Melanie then Orla with Emer, Claire and Anne Dawson and last but not least Mieke with Carolyn . From the start it was always going to be a tight match - we were not disappointed . It was for more exciting then the open in Donegal - the Killiney supporters obviously agreed as we had loads of supporters - thank you all for coming out it really is so important at this stage of the competition.
A cool box with chilled water / bananas / bars / nuts was set up and supplies were constantly replenished - water and food was not going to be a problem.
A loss for Diane was followed by a win from Orla. The remaining 3 games were neck and neck … Then Cathryn was 2 down playing the 16 - oh oh not looking good. A gentle reminder that she had flown a long with to play and losing was not as option, so she dug deep and won 16, 17 & 18 in AWESOME style - 3 fantastic pars. The game was back on. Claire lost on 17 so at 2-2 it was all done to the FORMIDABLE Mieke. 1 up on 17 and was so unlucky not to win the match as the ball clung to the lip for dear life despite the wind that blew across the green from the spectators.
Onwards and upwards Mieke trundled up the 18 followed by the Killiney supporters. Corrstown were outnumbered by 20:1 and must have felt the pressure. Mieke held her nerve and closed out the match with a fantastic display of golf on the 18.
Possibly our first semi final in the Intermediate cup!
Semi Finals! Have I said we are now in the Semi Finals!?!
Nerve racking golf but great fun.
Fantastic and committed bunch of ladies and caddies - well done all of you.
Killiney is very proud.
