Killiney beat Grange golf club in a thrilling match on Friday 21st June.
While killiney lost the first match against a strong pairing, Paraic Lavelle and Kieran Killeen battled hard. The second, despite being 2 down after 16 was halved by Killiney by Jim Mountjoy and Harry Lawlor, with two great wins on the 17th and 18th.
Match 3 was won by Donn O’Shaughnessy and John Quinn. The fourth match was won by David Allen and Paddy Allen on the 17th.
So it’s 2.5 v 1.5 in Killiney’s favour as the last match comes up the 18th with Killiney 1 down - if it stays that way they’re heading up the 19th. A spectacular 9 iron from Fionnan Breathnach to within 8 feet of the hole gave us confidence and with two putts to win the hole it was game over. A brilliant half resulting in a final score of 3:2 to Killiney.
Killiney now play either Castle or Foxrock in the Bloom Cup semi final.
