Dear {{firstname}},

The frost has set into our greens again, thankfully it's not as bad as the conditions experienced in mid December.  The forecast is predicting milder weather to return from Friday so we should be back up and running soon.

Unlike December, the frost has only penetrated the top 2 centimeters of the ground so shouldn't take too long to thaw.  If you look closely at the frost on a grass leaf you will see that it forms into sharp spikes, by walking on grass in these conditions the spikes can be driven into grass leaf.  The ice spikes can easily penetrate the cell walls of the plant causing a weakened plant at best or killing it altogether.

The picture below shows how many footprints a 4 ball can make on a green and this is why we close the course when there are frosty conditions.

Once again, I thank you for your patience and understanding during this cold snap.

Kindest Regards,

Michael Browne,
Course Superintendent.
