RAINFALL 2024
The rainfall over the last 3 months hasn’t been the wettest Killiney has experienced, that record was in 2013 when 323mm fell from January to the end of March. This year we received 146mm in the same period, but it is the consistency of the number of days it has rained that is keeping the ground saturated.

In the first 91 days of 2024 there was just 36 days it didn’t rain. In the month of March there were only 7 dry days. This rainfall is on top of the 444mm that fell in the last 6 months of 2023.

The pores in the soil are full of water and are very slow to empty and so even small amounts of rain will top the pores up to a point where the water is sitting on the surface. This is called soil saturation.

Hopefully, with the longer days and an increase in temperatures we might see a drying of the ground.

A report on the New Tees & Greens will be included in next week's Weekly Digest.

Michael Browne,
Course Superintendent.
