Dear Members,

We are looking forward to seeing you all in the coming days and to enjoying what we hope will be a full return to golf over the coming months.

While you have been away, we have been very busy, and we would like to take this opportunity to share with you the projects that have been completed and some that are still underway.

New Practice Facility
We have developed a new practice facility which we hope you will all get lots of enjoyment from once complete. It includes a new and extended practice putting green, a new chipping green and a new practice range and finally, a new practice ball dispenser which will save you the headache of collecting your golf balls after practice.

The chipping green and practice target area is closed at present and will be designated GUR as there still remains some final work to be done. We would ask all members not to retrieve their ball from this area until all the works are complete. Date to be announced.

We hope to have the new practice putting green in play as soon as possible when the ground settles, and we will be upgrading the exposed rock wall.  The gardening committee will then be putting their green fingers to work to create a new flower bed.

New Plants & Flowers
Our gardening committee have been working very hard over lockdown to improve the aesthetics of the course.  They have been responsible for improving the areas around the 3rd/12th teeing areas and for planting loads of beautiful flowers which we hope you will enjoy on your return.  Our thanks to Charlie Barry and his Gardening Committee for all their hard work.

Upgraded Clubhouse
Our Clubhouse is undergoing an extensive renovation. Painting of the bar and dining room has been completed and as we write a new carpet is being installed. There will be new lighting in the dining room and new furniture in both the bar and the dining room to follow. The smoking shelter has been repainted and the paving of the pathway to the Junior Lockers and bicycle racks replaced.

In the coming weeks, a new parasol with lighting and heating will be installed on the back terrace of the clubhouse.

A big thank you to our house convener Gillian Bolton ably assisted by Avril Allen & Donn O’Shaughnessy for the huge time and effort they have put into this work. Once restrictions are lifted, we hope you will get to enjoy, in the first instance, the new parasols and once we are back to level 3 the new upgraded clubhouse.

Improving our Impact on the Environment
The Club continues to play its part in reducing climate change. A new Water Cooler/Dispenser is being installed in the basement to reduce the use of single use plastics. The water will be filtered and can be used to refill your bottles.

Course upgrades
We received delivery of a new Baroness Fairway mower in early spring. This is a superior machine to the previous John Deere.

The collars around the 9th Green have been sodded and have bedded in well. Tree pruning on the left side of the 2nd/11th Fairway has been completed and gives greater visibility of the fairway ahead.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you on your return to the club and hope that you will welcome and enjoy the upgrades that have taken place since you were last here.

In addition, please ensure to read our Return to Golf Protocols before you return to golf from Monday next 26th April.

The Golf Ireland App, which provides for pre-registration and return of general play scores, has now been launched.
