Dear {{firstname}},

Hope we are all braced for "Storm Ciaran" arriving this evening - hopefully we will miss the worst of it!  It looks like it could be a long winter!  On the up side... it is only 54 days to Christmas.  Now that Halloween is over we can start thinking about our Christmas shopping and getting into the festive mood.  Please - No Christmas songs until 1st December, otherwise we will be sick of them too soon!

COURSE NEWS
Rainfall 2023
The rainfall over the last few weeks has resulted in the ground becoming saturated. In a normal year the ground will dry out in the summer months and then in the winter months it has the capacity to absorb rainfall.

This year has been very different. Since March we have received 500mm of rain. To put that in perspective, for the full year in 2022 we had 460mm of rain, in 2021 we had 430mm of rain.

In the last 4 months alone there has been 320mm of rain. As a result, the pores in the soil are full of water and are very slow to empty and so even small amounts of rain will top the pores up to a point where the water is
sitting on the surface. This is called soil saturation.

This is why there has been an increased number of days recently when the course has been closed.

Unfortunately, the forecast for the next few days is for more rain, which if it falls as forecast, will give the ground very little chance to dry out and we may be facing more frequent closures.

I understand this is frustrating for you the members and do appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
